Our Kauai Adventure Ends...

We are now waiting for our bags in Portland... It's really late, but we had a really good flight from SFO. Both kids were super! WHEW! :-)

Kauai: Last of the Turtle-Watching... (sad sigh...)

But we had such a fun time this morning. I loved spending these moments with Samuel, as he truly appreciates watching for turtles and fish each morning!

Kauai: Our Last Full Day...

We had another good day... it sure is hard to know we have to leave tomorrow.

We did a longer run/walk this morning. We went up the road, past Lawai Beach (the timeshare) and then up to Starbucks... We then followed the beach path back to the house. When we got home, Samuel and I decided we would go down and watch for turtles. We had the BEST time together - we only saw one turtle, but we saw some fish and even a water snake (YUCK!!!)

Then we all played in the pool until it was naptime. Joe decided to give snorkeling a try from our water-entry area.  He said it was just too choppy today, so he didn't see much.

When Samuel woke up, we headed up to the Blowhole and watch it spout off for a bit... then it was off to Snorkel Bob's to return the snorkel gear and we ended it with Old Koloa Town for a little bit of shopping.

We had planned to grill tonight, but all decided we were tired and rather than clean up dishes, we would go to Keoki's - end things with a bang! However, Samuel was not in the greatest of moods tonight (not sure what the deal was) - so we didn't stay long. We were going to order some more Hula Pie, in celebration of my sister's birthday today... but didn't quite make it long enough (sorry Christy!)

Tonight, Joe and Samuel went on a long walk... to Baby Beach, the Beach House, Lawai Beach, etc... While they were doing that, I strapped Luke on me (in the baby carrier) and we worked on packing things up.

It will be hard to tomorrow... to wake up knowing we have to leave this beautiful island. It has been a super trip and saying good-bye is always so hard.

Kauai: Wednesday (Cabana Time!)

We had one fantastic day yesterday... We "splurged" a bit and rented a cabana at the Lihue Marriott. We have done this in the past, as guests of the hotel, but weren't sure if they would allow non-guests to rent them. But they did! It worked out great with the kids (especially keeping Luke cool, in the shade.) We even got both Samuel and Luke to nap AT THE SAME TIME in the cabana! Woo-Hoo! I told Joe it felt like "old times" with us being all by ourselves. We even quickly ran out into the ocean together for about 15 seconds... felt like a real date! :-)

We stayed at the Marriott from 9am until about 4pm, so it was well-worth the drive! We got Samuel some sand toys and he enjoyed playing with them all day. Joe did take him into the water and they got taken down by a big wave, so Samuel wasn't very pleased about that. I had to work with him later, to get back into the ocean (we just jumped the little waves for awhile.)

Then we got home, Joe ordered a pizza and we all went to bed early. It was one FUN day, but we were all pretty tired out.

Today is our last full day... BIG SAD SIGH... we have had such a fun vacation together, and are really glad we took this trip. It will be hard to transition back into our "normal" life (well... somewhat normal, given Joe is still on leave from work through mid-December.) It has been one blessing of a summer, together as a family!!!
